Farewell Wild Thing

For those of you haven't heard, I'm sorry to pass on the depressing news that Maurice Sendak died a few days ago. He, along with Roald Dahl and Shel Silverstein formed an unholy triumvirate of literary influence on my developing brain, and I will miss them all terribly. I don't know who has taken up the cause these days, maybe that Lemony Snicket fellow? But someone has to be twisting young minds or we'll be in a lot of trouble.

I wrote a SGA piece a while back, a gen story called Wild Thing in which Rodney reads the story to John while he's recuperating from the retrovirus, and I'm offering it up as pale tribute since I quoted his story a fair bit in it.

Farewell, Maurice. Thank you for all the wonderful words.

\o/ boosting the signal that the 852 Prospect Sentinel Archive is moving in with AO3 as an Integrated Collection. I specifically joined Open Doors so I could help out with the move because I have spent so very many enjoyable hours on 852 and felt like it was time to give a little back.

I'm going to be a little busy come beginning of June. :)))

Folks you ready to make some hugs? Doesn't matter who, but it's IMPORTANT. Could be Rodney hugging Teyla or Danno hugging Chin. Tony hugging Bruce because man, it's not easy being huge and green. <3

Could be your favorite pairing hugging in warm summer moonlight (it *is* summer, isn't it? Feels like it) or best friend hugging a wounded comrade IDK I don't care HUGS WE NEED HUGS.

ETA: HUG ROUND-UP! Thank you all!

folks, I've reorganized my relationship tags for consistency, so if you've been tracking me under the old last-name model, you'll need to re-set your notifications under the new model (first names). the old last names will go away in a few days.

R.I.P. MCA

Adam "MCA" Yauch of the Beastie Boys has died at 47, probably of cancer. If it were possible to wear out a CD I think I did back in the early 90s when I was listening to Check Your Head incessantly while working in a small start up in South Park. I'd never heard that particular combination of driving music and rhythm and lyricism, and I was absolutely addicted. These guys were endlessly creative transformative artists as well as original musicians (which isn't to say Mike D and Adrock won't continue to create more amazing shit) and I'm going to miss the hell out of the Beastie Boys.

R.I.P., Adam, and sympathies to your family. Thanks for all the amazing music.

ETA: kristen999 found this awesome tribute by Coldplay that made me wibble.
