[sticky post] Oh, dear

All: it appears LiveJournal has moved all their servers to Russia. As a result, I have decided I no longer want to post content to them.

This will be my final cross-post from my Dreamwidth account, so if you want to continue to receive journal content from me and you are reading this on LJ, please create an account at dreamwidth.org and subscribe to my circle/ask me to friend you (I'm esteefee there).

If you are reading this on DW, obviously you need do nothing at all. ~:

If you are looking for any content that is located on my LJ but seems to be missing thanks to LJ's new, draconian rules, go to my DW account and use the tags or my memories to try to locate the story. Or simply go to my fiction on AO3 and search for the story there. I am pretty religious about cross-posting.

Farewell, LJ. It's been a long and interesting road.

it was my brother’s fault

Posted in full at: http://ift.tt/2dAQG1k

let me tell you about the time I epoxied my eye shut.

see, my brother asked me to hold the nose of his plane while he used one of these to wind the big rubber band. so I did, because he would do the same for me shortly, only I didn’t know he’d sanded down his nose too far and had used epoxy to glue on his spinner (who does that?), and then I happened to rub my eye (I was like 7 okay) and–

“why are you squinting at me?” he says.

“i can’t open my eye.”

“why not?”

“because it’s stuck? this stuff is gooey”

“...!  WE HAVE TO GO SEE MR. WARNER NOW.”

Mr. Warner was our super fabulous aeronautics instructor who made us our own airplane kits and would demonstrate how a jet engine flew using a hand-made model and a popped whippet canister. I’m pretty sure I now know what he was doing with the spare ones after class to deal with idiots like me who showed up with their eyelids epoxied shut.

[background babble: all the summer school parents now freaking out at my seven year-old eye glued shut. my parental figure was teaching his own class at the time and not there to freak out. my brother was pissed because this was cutting into his flying time out on the tarmac.]

“why would you use epoxy?” Mr. Warner very calmly remonstrated with my brother as he dripped something awful onto my face that made my eye burn. “epoxy is too heavy and drags your nose down. next time, use Testors.”

“ow,” I said.  but I trusted Mr. Warner. Mr. Warner once made me a dirigible out of tissue paper and balsa wood.

then he used his big ol’ thumbs and tugged down on my cheek and up on my eyebrow and my eyelid pulled open.  he did it, mind you, like he had to do this all the time, like rotten kids like me showed up with body parts glued together as a matter of course.

“there we go,” he said and patted me on my 7 year-old head. “go work on your model. get her up for 4 minutes.  and no epoxy!”

a four-minute+ flight was the objective of all us balsa plane nerds, and I swore, my right eye smarting fiercely as I ran after my brother, that I would beat the record.

as soon as I could catch my brother. he owed me a wind up.

opposable thumbs

Posted in full at: http://ift.tt/2aj11lu
ice is very nice when you have a minor bike accident. also, sleep has been tremendously beneficial.  alas, because I do not have a Service Lemur (© [personal profile] em_kellesvig) to sit on my arm and assist me, here are the things I have discovered I can’t do w/o two opposable thumbs, since I fractured my left one:

1. put a key on a keyring
2. tie a pony tail
3. open a childproof pill bottle (figured it out eventually)
4. clip PK’s nails (this will shortly become critical)
5. play Abe’s Oddworld

however, if you must fracture or break a fingerbone, I highly recommend breaking your non-dominant thumb's distal phalanx. you probably use your dominant thumb for the space bar already, so it won’t affect your typing, and of the list above, my biggest concern is that PK will shred my ninja pajamas before the six weeks are up.

here, have a lemur:
