The wraith-thing was right—it was dry in the desert.

John was dying. He'd been here once before, bleeding out onto sand. Only this time there was no evac team. Just fire, and the familiar stink of burning metal, and the hot, dry wind.

He wondered if McKay was right and the wraith was trying to send a signal before the air strike. He wondered if he'd helped at all, bought them a few minutes.

He wondered if there was ever a time when you'd paid enough, but he already knew the answer to that.

His eyes were full of sky.
